This tutorial is designed to help you get the best out of Vector Art. By the end of this tutorial, you will know some of the most useful graphics design skills in terms of creating your own graphics from scratch.
There's only 1 Rule! You can never copy & paste images from Google! The only time you'd ever be allowed would be to get some perspective of what something looks like.
Beside which, you could encounter copyright issues when working with graphics other people have made.
There are the odd dos and donts in Vector Art. For example, you should avoid following past examples and trends - it's never good to make things look like something else, unless you intend to and the style suite the theme you're using.
Use the list below to think about things that you should avoid and practise when designing graphics:
- Never copy other people's signature styles.
- If you are going to use other people's styles, adjust them and customise key features to make them your own - there's nothing wrong with building from foundations made by someone else - the best styles are often developed from peers' work.
- Try not to fall into a repetetive pattern - try to differ your work from project to project.
- Be Subtle - the urge to use all the features that are available to you is very strong, but to show that you really are good at creating graphics, you should really be subtle and only use the features that you need.
- It is easy to fall into a pattern of using the same technique all over again. Getting better means experiementing with techniques, so don't use the same colours and same stroke style for every project you make. However, when creating multiple graphics inside one project, you must remember to be consistent with your theme (you may know the them as your House Style)
